Irish S&C Conference 2024

The Irish Strength and Conditioning Conference 2024 will take place at Dublin City University on Saturday, August 17th 2024, with a pre-conference event on Friday August 16th.

The 2024 conference will bring together the best minds in strength and conditioning with experience at the highest level of sports including rugby, soccer, GAA, golf, formula 1 and more for an interactive day of learning and networking, and a night of fun and socialising.

Confirmed Speakers

  • Dr. Dan Coughlan is a physiotherapist and S&C coach. He is currently the Head of Strength and Conditioning for the DP World Tour and European Tour Performance Institute. Dan is also the science and medicine lead for England Golf and a co-founder of the Golf Performance Network.

  • Ivi Casagrande is a high performance coach who is the current performance coach with the Irish Women’s National Soccer team. Ivi also consults as a Technical Expert with FIFA and UEFA organisations. She is part of the Human Performance Council with Under Armour, participating in various projects within the company. Currently she is the Sport Scientist Lead Consultant with Lewes FC Women in England.

  • Joe McGinley is regarded as one of Ireland’s leading strength and conditioning coaches. Joe is currently a senior strength and conditioning coach with Leinster Rugby.

  • Lynne is currently the Women’s High Performance Manager at South African Rugby Union.

    Lynne is a former International rugby player and is Ireland women’s rugby most capped player.

    Lynne is also a member of Sport Ireland Executive Board & High Performance Board Member and Chair of Sport Ireland's Women In Sport Committee.

  • Patrick Harding is a Performance Coach with years’ experience working in the elite sporting environment. His academic background includes a Diploma in Applied Physiology and Health Science, a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy and an MSc in Strength and Conditioning.

    He has a strong background in contact-based sport, previously working in professional rugby union and Australian Rules Football (AFL) in Sydney, Australia. As the Lead Physiotherapist for Team GB’s Canoeing squad for the Rio 2016 Olympic cycle he was an accredited Team GB member at the Rio Olympics culminating in the sports most successful games in British Olympic history, winning 2 gold and 2 silver medals.

    Following the Rio Olympics, he spent 2 seasons with Arsenal Football Club in the English Premier League supporting the physical development of professional footballers competing in the highest tier of the game.

    In recent years he has developed his individual athlete management portfolio moving into Formula 1 Motorsport as a Performance Coach to Alex Albon. Currently Patrick continues works with Alex and Williams Racing.

  • Danielle Cunningham is an experienced strength and conditioning coach with expertise in youth and adolescent athletic development. Currently Danielle is the Age Grade Strength and Conditioning Coach with Muster Rugby.

Pre-Conference Event:

Gaelic Games Athletic Development Community of Practice Event

On August 16th the Gaelic Games Athletic Development Working Group will hold an athletic development community of practice event supported by the Irish S&C Network at Dublin City University.

This event will bring together practitioners and stakeholders in athletic development for Gaelic Games to facilitate learning and network. This event will include presentations from leading figures in athletic development in the GAA.

Abstract Submission

We will be accepting academic abstract submissions for oral and poster presentations in due course. The Irish S&C conference will be a welcoming environment for students and academics to showcase their research. Abstracts are invited for research from the following categories:

  • Strength and Conditioning

  • Sports Science

  • Sports Physiotherapy / Sports Medicine

Abstracts are also welcome from authors who feel their research is relevant but may not be strictly aligned under the above categories.

An independent judging panel will award best poster and oral presentations on the day.
